A note from the Artist:
Growing up in Houston I have had the privilege of being surrounded by diversity; to have an understanding of more cultures than just “my own”. I grew up believing in equal rights for all, but, like many of us, I was told we were living in a better time- “post racism” one teacher told me.
This could not be further from the truth.
Things have to change. Many have known this for a long time and some are just now figuring it out, but silence is no longer an option.
My goal in the making of this song was to keep the conversation going. After recently listening to JFK’s Civil Rights speech given on June 11, 1963, it made me so angry how applicable it still was over half a century later. It sounded like it could have been given at one of the recent rallies.
Too often we see the 24-hr news cycle cover up these conversations. Something else comes up to talk about and equal rights takes a back seat again.
This can no longer be the norm.
We must continue the fight for equality.
We must continue the fight for justice.
We must continue the fight for peace.
